MARKET REPORT
Precious metals articles made in Italy cover alone 70% of European production. Each year in Italy 500 tonnes of fine gold, 1400 of silver and 4 of platinum are processed. There are over 10,000 companies operating in this sector, employing 40,000 people for production. In 2003 the Italian gold and jewelry business generated a turnover of over 5.5 billion Euro. Almost 70% of the gold-jewellery companies and 86% of operators are grouped into five Italian regions: Veneto, Tuscany, Piedmont, Lombardy and Campania. The various types of products are mainly located in four districts: Vicenza, Arezzo, Valenza and Torre del Greco.
Vicenza
The Vicenza production centre is specialized in gold articles in the medium to high bracket (chains, hollow gold, moulded pieces of jewellery, etc.) with growing expansion in the range of products and a shift towards jewelry production. The production area is fairly vast (from Vicenza to Bassano del Grappa) and includes quite a large number of firms: more than 1,150, of which 860 are craft industries. Local business fabric also sees the presence of numerous firms of a medium size thanks to the production of chains. 90% of the goods produced using all the worked gold in the district (half of the total imported in Italy), is destined for foreign market, where Vicenza’s fame is linked mainly to 18 carat gold and to its record for the production of watchcases (30% of the district’s output).
Importance of the show and Country
Vicenza show is the second biggest show in the Europe after Basel World and for India its importance is more for the market of EU Countries as it is cost effective as compared to Basel World. Italy who is leader in Jewellery Industry has an ancient tradition of jewellery industry. The jewellery trend of the world starts with Italy, so for Indian Exhibitors Italy proves to be entry point for jewellery market for Europe in general and EU Countries in particular.
